About Diverse Laser Coffs Harbour | Our Story & Capabilities

Diverse Laser Coffs Harbour is a locally owned laser cutting, manufacturing and engraving business servicing the Mid North Coast and beyond. Our capabilities combine modern fibre laser cutting, CNC folding, CAD design, laser marking and engraving, with 3D scanning and reverse engineering being our latest addition.

Our Story

Diverse Laser was founded in 2021 by Sheldon Burmester, who started by manufacturing plasma-cut parts from his garage. As demand for his work grew, Sheldon expanded the business and invested in laser cutting technology, developing the business into what became Diverse Laser.

Our own history in laser technology goes back considerably further. Extreme Engraving & Awards has been operating in the Coffs Harbour area for more than 25 years, with its first laser engraving machine purchased in 1999. After approximately five years under its original owners, the business was purchased by Sue and Jeff, who operated Extreme Engraving & Awards for approximately 20 years.

In February 2023, Kevin and Wendy Coleborn purchased Extreme Engraving & Awards, becoming its third owners and continuing its long history in laser engraving, awards and custom manufacturing.

In June 2024, Kevin and Wendy purchased Diverse Laser from Sheldon, bringing the two businesses together at the same premises. This combined the established engraving experience of Extreme Engraving & Awards with Diverse Laser’s industrial fibre laser cutting and manufacturing capabilities.

Since then, we have continued to invest in new equipment and technology, expanding our capabilities in CNC folding, CAD design, fibre laser marking and, most recently, 3D scanning and reverse engineering.

In 2026, Extreme Engraving & Awards was fully merged into Diverse Laser. Today, both businesses operate as one under BK & WE Pty Ltd trading as Diverse Laser, combining more than 25 years of laser engraving history with modern laser cutting and manufacturing technology.

Meet the Team

Diverse Laser Coffs Harbour owners Kevin and Wendy

Kevin Coleborn

With over 35 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, Kevin’s journey began as a toolmaker. He holds a Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting and has worked in various roles, from shop floor positions to senior management, including international experience. Kevin’s depth of knowledge in manufacturing makes him the perfect lead for Diverse Laser’s technical operations.

Wendy Coleborn

Wendy brings over 20 years of office management experience in the manufacturing sector. Her expertise spans payroll, bookkeeping, and finance, making her an integral part of running the business smoothly. Her organizational skills ensure that all aspects of Diverse Laser’s operations stay on track.

Reggie Ayling – Production & Laser Operations

Reggie began his manufacturing career with Diverse Laser and has developed the majority of his industry experience within our workshop. Starting with intensive training in laser cutting and production, he has continued to build his skills through hands-on experience across our day-to-day manufacturing operations.

Reggie is now an important part of our production team, with experience in laser cutting, job preparation and general workshop operations. His previous experience in the hotel and brewery industries also gave him a strong customer service background, which he brings to his role at Diverse Laser.

Steve Rumble – Fabrication & Manufacturing

Steve brings a strong practical and hands-on background to the Diverse Laser team, with experience gained across transport, agriculture and manufacturing.

After working in the dairy industry in Bowraville, Steve moved into the transport industry with Lindsay Transport, where he began his apprenticeship. Now completing his apprenticeship with Diverse Laser, Steve is continuing his trade training while building on his existing practical experience at Diverse Laser.

Working across our day-to-day manufacturing operations, Steve is developing further experience in fabrication, laser cutting, CNC folding and general workshop production, combining formal trade training with hands-on manufacturing experience.
